The idea of temporary saline injections into the breasts originated as a yet another idea for helping women determine which implant size they might prefer. A harmless saltwater solution is injected directly into the breast tissue, and the skin expands to accommodate the added volume. Over the following 24 hours, the fluid is harmlessly absorbed by the body, and the enhancement effects dissipate. Many doctors feel that this method of “trying implants on for size” gives a more realistic representation of what a patient can actually expect after surgery than external sizers.

Scrotal inflation or scrotal saline infusion is a procedure in which a saline solution is injected into the scrotum to temporarily inflate them and give them that full, plump appearance. While commonly referred to as a saline ball injection, it is crucial to clarify that saline is injected into the scrotum (ball sack), not directly into the testicles (balls). In some circumstances, men have injected up to 900 milliliter into their testicles, resulting in a scrotum resembling a large, red water balloon. The body absorbs the fluid, and the scrotum returns to its former size in a few days. In a rare variation of scrotal inflation, air is used instead of liquid to inflate the scrotum. The swelling, however, does not always go away and can be rather unpleasant.
